Domaine Jean Francois
Domaine Jean-François brings together a fusion of California’s iconic terroir and time-honored Burgundian winemaking traditions. Our vision was to unite the profound potential of a historic California vineyard with the expertise and finesse developed over centuries in Burgundy. By carefully selecting 12 rows of Pinot Noir vines from the famed Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, we cultivate and vinify our wines with a dedication to organic farming and the principles of Burgundian craftsmanship.
The Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, currently nurtured by the Terlato family, holds a place of reverence in California's viticultural history. Planted in 1972 by Michael Benedict and Richard Sanford, this site is renowned for its unique geology—formed by seismic events that left ancient marine shale deposits, shaping the vineyard’s distinct character. Our wines, born from this remarkable terroir, combine California’s bold vibrancy with the elegance and complexity of Burgundy, offering a truly unique expression of place and tradition.
